Privacy policy
Last updated September 27, 2026
Mainthread is my software studio. I’m David Jones, and I make the apps this policy covers. When this policy says “I”, it means me, the person responsible for your information.
Some of what follows is being built now. Those parts are marked Coming, and each one says how things work until it arrives.
What this covers
- mainthread.ai, including its contact form
- Genesis, at genesis.mainthread.ai
- Zoning Signal, at zoningsignal.com, and its phone app once it’s released
- The Mainthread account, the sign-in these apps share
Wordship and Ascend Log have their own privacy policies, and each governs your information in its app: Wordship’s privacy policy, and Ascend Log’s privacy policy from Ascend Lifting League, which publishes it. Both apps use the same Google sign-in project as the Mainthread account, so if you sign in to either one with Google, Google may show you the Mainthread name and a link to this page.
Software I build for a client follows that client’s policy.
The Mainthread account
Genesis and Zoning Signal already sign people in through one shared sign-in service, so the same email address or Google account reaches both. I’m turning that into the Mainthread account: one sign-in for Genesis, Zoning Signal and the apps that come after them.
Each app keeps what you do there to itself. Your Zoning Signal follows stay in Zoning Signal, and your Genesis search stays in Genesis.
- ComingWhen you first use your account in a second app, that app will ask you before it joins, and name both apps.
- ComingSign in with Apple, alongside Google and email.
- ComingTwo ways to leave, in every app and at account.mainthread.ai: remove your data from one app, or delete your whole Mainthread account. See Deleting your information.
What signing in keeps
- Your email address, and your password if you set one. The password is stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody can read it back.
- If you sign in with Google: the account id Google gives the sign-in service, and the name, email address and profile picture Google shares.
- When your account was created and when you last signed in.
- For each signed-in session, the network (IP) address and the browser or device description. These help keep your account secure.
- ComingIf you sign in with Apple: the id Apple gives Mainthread, your email address or the private relay address Apple creates for you, and your name if you choose to share it.
- ComingWhich Mainthread apps you use and when you agreed to join each one. Today each app keeps its own record of you instead.
Sign-in emails, such as confirmation links and one-time sign-in links, come from noreply@mainthread.ai and are sent through Resend. Signing in keeps a session in your browser or on your device so you stay signed in.
What each service keeps
mainthread.ai
The site itself has no sign-in and no analytics. If you send a note through the contact form, I keep your email address and your message so I can reply. The note is saved in the database and a copy is emailed to me through Resend. Email you send to a mainthread.ai address is forwarded to my inbox by Cloudflare.
Genesis
Genesis is a job search I run by invitation for a small number of candidates. It keeps what you give it and what we build together: your profile and its earlier versions, the résumés, cover letters and other files you upload, the jobs I find for you and how you respond to each one, your pipeline, our messages, your notification settings, and the preferences Genesis works out from the jobs you like and pass on. You can see it, and so can I as your operator. I also keep my own working notes about your search.
To prepare your search I work with AI tools: Claude from Anthropic and Codex from OpenAI, and some profile work runs through OpenRouter. They process your résumé material and search details on my behalf. My working files for your search, including your résumé material, are kept on my computer and in a private GitHub repository. Genesis uses Voyage AI to turn jobs, messages and documents into search vectors, so you can search by meaning.
Genesis emails you about new messages and matches through Resend. The Genesis website uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and show how pages are used.
Zoning Signal
Anyone can read Zoning Signal without an account. On zoningsignal.com you can sign in with Google or an emailed link to keep a watchlist of places; I keep your account and the places you save. If you sign up for the weekly email, I keep your address and the places and topics you chose, so I can send it.
Zoning Signal also answers AI agents through its MCP service at zoningsignal.com/mcp. Each request is logged: the tool called, its inputs, the result, how long it took, the agent or browser name, the referring page, and a salted hash of the network address in place of the address itself.
ComingThe Zoning Signal phone app is being prepared for the App Store and Google Play. When it adds alerts, it will keep a push token for your device and the places you follow so it can notify you. This policy will describe the app in full before it’s released.
The public records in Zoning Signal
Zoning Signal republishes and reads the agendas, minutes and staff reports that local governments in Florida publish as public records. Those records name people as the government recorded them: applicants, property owners and their representatives, board members, and sometimes people who spoke at a meeting. I read them with the help of AI tools and publish what each decision changes. If you appear in a reading and want me to look at how you’re named, write to me.
Who processes it for me
These companies handle information on my behalf, only to do the work described here. I share your information with nobody else, except when the law requires it or you ask me to. I don’t sell your personal information or use it to advertise to you.

How long I keep it
- Your account and each app’s data: for as long as you keep the account or use the app, until you ask me to delete it.
- Contact-form notes: for as long as our conversation needs them. Ask and I’ll delete yours.
- Database backups are made daily and expire after about a week, so deleted information leaves the backups within that time.
- Request and sign-in logs held by the providers above follow their own retention periods.
- ComingWhen you delete your Mainthread account, a receipt stays for three years: a receipt code, what was deleted and when. Your user id in it is replaced by the receipt code.
- The public records in Zoning Signal stay published as part of the public record.
Deleting your information
Today
Email david@mainthread.ai from the address on your account and tell me what to delete: one app’s data, or your whole account. I’ll confirm the request is yours, finish within 30 days, and write back when it’s done.
- Genesis: your profile and its versions, your files, jobs, pipeline, messages, notifications and preferences, and my working files for your search.
- Zoning Signal: your watchlist and your weekly-email subscription.
- Your whole account: everything above, plus your sign-in.
ComingWith the Mainthread account
Every app’s account screen, and account.mainthread.ai, will offer two choices that take effect right away:
- Remove my data from this app. Deletes that app’s data and your membership in it. Your account and your other apps stay as they are.
- Delete my Mainthread account. Deletes every app’s data and your sign-in. If you signed in with Apple, I’ll also ask Apple to stop sharing your sign-in with Mainthread. You’ll get a receipt by email.
Your other choices
You can ask me for a copy of your information, or ask me to correct it, by writing to me. In Genesis you can choose which notifications you receive in Settings. You can stop Zoning Signal’s weekly email by writing to me.
Children
Mainthread’s services are made for adults and aren’t directed to children under 13. I don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given me information, write to me and I’ll delete it.
Where it is stored
The database is in the United States, in Supabase’s US East region. If you use these services from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Security
Your information travels over encrypted connections, and I work to limit who can reach it. No system is perfectly secure. If I learn of a breach that affects your information, I’ll tell you.
Changes to this policy
When I change this policy, I’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your information is used, I’ll tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect.
Questions about your information: david@mainthread.ai. The terms of use cover the rest.
